Snacking Nirvana That’s Actually Good for the Environment

Are the snacks that you’re buying from your grocery store full of pesticides? They might be!

Over 400 billion tons of pesticides and chemicals are used on industrial farmed products today. In the US, these microbiome-killing herbicides are used on everything from wheat to sugar beet crops to the tulips you buy for your home. The mass spraying of the these chemicals has effects far beyond just the soil or crop it is sprayed on. This is not only terrible for human health (they can seep into local water supply), the soil and runoff effects are creating dead zones in our oceans, lakes, and rivers.

Sustainable farming means moving AWAY from these pesticides, toward the natural, biological processes already in work at nature.

Enter the Indulgent Snacking Duo!

I LOVE to support farmers and producers who are innovating in these areas, especially when it tastes so good to do so! That’s why I’m super excited about the Oat Nut Granola and Fair Trade Dark Chocolate Pecan Bark now available in my Store.

Both of these products come from a community-run farm in Americus, Georgia called Koinonia Farms.

Let’s Support Sustainable Pecan Farming

Pecan farming is BIG BUSINESS in Georgia, but most of it uses ecology-harming pesticides.

Koinonia, on the other hand, is in the midst of a major experiment to grow their pecans using biological methods. This small farm located in Amicus, Georgia is shaking things up- in a good way, Instead of using synthetic fertilizers, they are infusing their soil with life using compost tea and other natural amendments. Rather than harmful pesticides, they’ve employed beneficial insects to help fight the pests that attack the trees.

They are hoping that they can lead the Georgia Pecan industry by example- showing that it’s possible to grow pecans without harmful chemicals. If other farms can follow suit, it will do so much to protect the environment and to improve the health of the soil, plants, animals and people.

These are the types of farms we should support! And we do so with our wallets- by purchasing their delicious goods.

Why I Love Their Granola & Pecan Bark

Both the Oat Nut Granola and Fair Trade Certified Dark Chocolate Pecan Bark utilize the sustainably grown pecans of Koinonia Farms. But what’s more, everything Koinonia makes is local and small batch. They have a small group of dedicated workers that hand make every product that they sell. They use organic, ultra-local ingredients whenever possible in their kitchens. And the result is SNACKING NIRVANA.

But don’t take my word for it! Order your batch now:
