Taste These Almonds and You’ll Never Try Another Brand Again
One of my FAVORITE items in the Regenerative Mama Better Box are the Almond Lane Dry Roasted Almonds. They’re the perfect combination of salty, crunchy, and satisfying- even my KIDS love them! And better yet, they’re from an amazing regenerative farm in California called Almond Lane.
Almond Lane is a family owned almond farm with agricultural roots dating back to the early 1900's. They are located in Woodland, CA, which is home to the best soil and climate conditions for growing almonds in the world.
A little bit about why I love this farm:
They’re the first almond farm in the WORLD to receive the prestigious “Sustainably Grown” Certification from SCS Global Services
It’s a lengthy and difficult process to get this certification— no “greenwashing” here! Almond Lane has a passion not only for producing the best tasting almonds, but doing so in ways that support the soil, workers, and native plants and insects on their farm.
A farm has to meet ALL of these requirements in order to have their product certified Sustainably Grown
They’re Innovative with their Regenerative Practices
They recently partnered with Watt’s Solitary Bees to kickstart their beneficial insect population in their orchards. They incubated and released the bees on the farm so that these beneficial pollinators would make Almond Lane their home year round. By doing this, they created an established bee population which allows Almond Lane to reduce dependence on commercial pollination services and gives their orchards more biodiversity.
Their Pasteurization Process is Chemical Free
In the early 2000's California passed a law that all almonds produced in California must be pasteurized. This was due to a salmonella outbreak that caused many to get sick from a bad batch of unpasteurized almonds.
There are two primary methods used to pasteurize the almonds
Steam or
The chemical propylene oxide (PPO), which is considered a possible carcinogen.
It's hard to tell which brands use what for pasteurization as it is not required to label.
While most large almond processors use PPO to pasteurize their almonds, Almond Lane uses steam pasteurization. Though the cost is higher to steam, it produces a safer and more natural product.
